Lawyer named to vacant school board seat
ASBURY PARK, May 28, 2009 -- Attorney Daniel Weiss has been named to a vacant seat on the Asbury Park Board of Education. Weiss will fill the unexpired term of Thomas Pivinski, who resigned when he took a county job.
Pivinski served two years of a three-year term before resigning to become director of the Monmouth County Office on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans' Interment Affairs.
Weiss, who has lived in the city for two years, is the founder and principal of The Law Offices of Daniel L. Weiss, L.L.C. with offices in Freehold and Asbury Park. He specializes in immigration law.
Weiss was admitted to practice in New Jersey and before the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He sits on the Board of Trustees as a leader of the New Jersey State Bar Association. He has lectured at colleges, universities, continuing legal education classes, judicial conferences and numerous community liaison classes and religious institutions. He was interviewed by NBC News in 2001 regarding the Elian Gonzales case.
Weiss is past chairman of the District IX Ethics Committee of New Jersey and is now a Special Master for the Office of Attorney Ethics. He received the Founder's Award from the American Immigration Lawyers Association in 2005 in recognition of his national and state involvement for LGBT rights.
Weiss received his undergraduate degree from American University, his Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh and studied international law extensively in Spain and Israel.
